Zen Temple
Jeffrey Augustine's interest in spiritual architecture, of those spaces dedicated to the reverence of the sacred, has influenced his art since an early age. "The flying buttresses of the great cathedral in Notre Dame particularly fascinated me when I began drawing seriously in college," he remarked during a discussion of his influences. Zen Temple is an especially striking use of line and angle used to create a dramatic image. Zen Temple was drawn by hand with a Rapidograph .00.
Asked about arcane meanings or hidden symbols in his work, Augustine commented that they are there for the viewer who can see them. Augustine admits that he, like so many other artists, is often not fully aware of the meanings in his work due to the mystery and transcendent nature of art itself. "Sometimes my drawings just draw themselves," he remarked, echoing what many artists of all kinds say about their work.
